Blowing up Warsaw-Lublin rail track is an unprecedented act of sabotage, says Polish PM

Warsaw (Poland): A railway line bringing passenger trains into Warsaw from southeastern Poland on Sunday was sabotage, the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Monday the damage to the line between Warsaw and Lublin on Sunday was caused by an explosion.

“Unfortunately, the worst fears have been confirmed,” Tusk said in a statement Monday posted on X. “An act of sabotage has occurred on the Warsaw-Lublin route (in the village of Mika). An explosion has destroyed the railway track.”

He said, “Blowing up the rail track on the Warsaw-Lublin route is an unprecedented act of sabotage targeting directly the security of the Polish state and its civilians. This route is also crucially important for delivering aid to Ukraine. We will catch the perpetrators, whoever they are.”

Two passengers and several staff members were on the train but no injuries were reported. Damage also was noted at another location on the same route.
