Washington: The son of Donald Trump, businessman Eric Trump, announced on Monday that Palm Beach International Airport will be renamed “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

According to reports by CBS News, the move follows the signing of a bill by Ron DeSantis to rebrand the airport in honour of the US president.

In a post on X, Eric Trump wrote: “Palm Beach International Airport is now officially… ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport!’ Proud to have played a small role in making this happen.” He also thanked Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger, Governor DeSantis, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, and lawmakers who supported the measure.

The new name is expected to come into effect on 1 July.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) clarified that airport name changes are handled at the local level and do not require federal approval. However, the agency noted it would need to update navigational charts and databases to reflect the change.

Separately, the Trump Organization filed a trademark application for the airport’s new name in February, according to records from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application reportedly covers a range of travel-related goods, including luggage, flight suits and plastic shoe protectors used during airport security screening.

The Trump Organization said the filing was prompted by the Florida legislation, adding that neither the president nor his family would receive any financial benefit. “To be clear, the President and his family will not receive any royalty, licensing fee, or financial consideration whatsoever from the proposed airport renaming,” the company said in a statement.
