One dead, five injured in Toronto mass shooting; Mayor Olivia Chow responds

Toronto: Mass shooting in Toronto's Lawrence Heights neighbourhood has left one man dead and five others injured. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, is now under active investigation by Toronto Police.
Gunfire erupted in the residential area, prompting an urgent response from emergency services. One person was pronounced dead, while five others sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Toronto Police remain at the scene, no information has yet been released about potential suspects or arrests.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the violence and gratitude to first responders via her official X account.
"Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening," she wrote. "My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle. I want to thank the first responders - Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene."
Mayor Chow also confirmed that her office is awaiting further updates from Toronto Police.
