For the third time in a weeks, a commercial vessel carrying Indian crew members has reportedly come under attack, raising fresh concerns over the safety of Indian seafarers navigating one of the world's busiest shipping routes.

The Indian Embassy in Oman said it is closely monitoring an incident involving the commercial vessel MT Jalveer, which caught fire off the coast near Oman's port of Shinas earlier on Thursday. The embassy said it is coordinating with Omani authorities to ensure the well-being and safety of the Indian nationals onboard.

"We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas port of Oman, earlier today. We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details," the mission said in a statement.

According to sources, MT Jalveer may have come under attack, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Officials have yet to confirm what triggered the blaze, and details about possible casualties or injuries were not immediately available.

Shinas, located along Oman's northern coastline near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, lies close to one of the world's most critical shipping chokepoints through which a substantial portion of global energy supplies passes.

Indian authorities are understood to be in touch with their Omani counterparts as efforts continue to assess the situation and verify the condition of all crew members aboard MT Jalveer.
