Japan PM Takaichi holds ‘candid’ talk with Trump ahead of Tokyo visit

Tokyo: Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who assumed office this week, confirmed on Saturday that she spoke with US President Donald Trump in a discussion described as “good and candid.” The conversation comes just days before Trump’s planned visit to Tokyo on a regional tour.

Takaichi stated on X that both leaders are determined to elevate the Japan-US alliance to greater heights, signalling early diplomatic engagement by the new Prime Minister. The discussion underscores Japan’s focus on maintaining strong bilateral ties with the United States amid regional challenges.
