Earthquake of 6.0 magnitude strikes Japan

Tokyo: A 6.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded at Kyushu in Japan, according to reports. The tremor was reported at 7.34 pm IST on Wednesday, as per information shared by the National Centre for Seismology on social media. No details have emerged yet regarding casualties or damage.

Meanwhile, a recent Japanese government report has warned of the possibility of an extremely powerful earthquake in the country. The report suggests that a mega earthquake in the Nankai Trough, located along Japan’s Pacific coast, could potentially trigger a tsunami. Experts estimate that hundreds of buildings could collapse, and the death toll could rise to as many as 300,000 people.

Japan remains one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
