Iran rejects fresh US talks, says no meeting planned in coming days

Tehran: Iran has said it has no plans to meet US officials in the coming days, even as technical discussions linked to a previous agreement continue in Doha.
Iran has ruled out any meetings with the United States "in the next few days" at any level, while confirming that technical discussions related to a previously agreed memorandum of understanding (MoU) will continue in Qatar.
Iran rules out immediate US talks
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran has no plans for direct engagement with US officials in the immediate future.
He stressed that the discussions taking place in Doha are not political negotiations with Washington but technical talks focused on implementing the 14-point MoU aimed at reducing tensions in West Asia.
Doha talks focused on implementation
According to Baghaei, the discussions involve the implementation of specific provisions of the agreement, including the issue of Iran's frozen financial assets.
He said these meetings are being held with Qatari officials rather than US representatives and reiterated that Iran would fulfil its obligations only if the other parties honour their commitments.
Baghaei also said the memorandum clearly outlines the responsibilities of all parties, including those of the United States.
Qatar clarifies role of US envoys
Earlier on Tuesday, Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari confirmed that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner are currently in Doha.
However, he clarified that they are meeting Qatari officials and mediators rather than holding direct negotiations with Iranian representatives.
According to Al-Ansari, the current phase involves technical teams working on implementation issues after an earlier round of negotiations. These teams continue to travel between Doha and other locations as discussions progress.
Frozen Iranian assets remain under discussion
Qatar also said that approximately USD 6 billion in frozen Iranian funds has not yet been transferred to Tehran.
Al-Ansari explained that the release of the funds remains linked to progress in the ongoing negotiations and would move forward only as implementation advances.
While Iran has ruled out immediate political talks with the United States, both Tehran and Doha indicated that technical engagement under the existing framework remains active.
The discussions are part of broader regional mediation efforts aimed at implementing earlier understandings and maintaining dialogue following recent tensions in West Asia.
