Tehran: Iran’s judiciary has announced the execution of a man accused of spying for the United States and Israel during the recent conflict, claiming the information he allegedly shared contributed to attacks on Iranian defence industry sites.

According to Iranian authorities, Mojtaba Kian was executed in Alborz province after being convicted of espionage linked to the United States and Israel.

Iranian officials alleged that Kian sent details and coordinates related to defence industry production units to networks connected to what the judiciary described as the “Zionist-American enemy”. Authorities claimed the information was used to carry out strikes that destroyed targeted facilities during the recent war.

Judiciary says attack followed information transfer

Iranian investigators reportedly stated that one of the identified locations was attacked and completely destroyed three days after the information was transmitted.

According to the judiciary, Kian confessed during the investigation that he had communicated with hostile networks and sent information through designated channels.

Officials also claimed that evidence recovered from his mobile phone included multiple messages containing details of defence-related sites.

Death sentence carried out after Supreme Court approval

Iranian authorities said the accused was tried in Alborz province with legal representation present during court proceedings.

The court sentenced him to death along with confiscation of assets after reportedly citing confessions, technical evidence and awareness of the alleged espionage network.

Iran’s Supreme Court later upheld the verdict after rejecting his appeal.

The execution was reportedly carried out less than 50 days after his arrest, following directives from Iran’s judiciary for fast-track handling of cases involving alleged collaboration with foreign enemies during the conflict.

Iran intensifies espionage crackdown during regional tensions

The execution comes amid rising regional tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Iran has recently intensified its crackdown on alleged espionage activities and has announced multiple arrests and executions linked to accusations of spying for Israel.

Human rights organisations have previously raised concerns over Iran’s use of capital punishment and the speed of trials in national security-related cases.
