Jakarta: A strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.7 struck the Banda Sea region of Indonesia on Tuesday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 137 kilometers (85 miles) beneath the seabed.

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed the seismic event and stated that it poses no tsunami threat.

Indonesia, which sits on the seismically active Pacific “Ring of Fire,” frequently experiences earthquakes due to the complex tectonic activity in the region.
