‘No help beyond borders’: Indian Embassy in Tehran warns against unauthorised land crossings

Tehran: The Embassy of India in Tehran issued an urgent travel advisory on Monday, warning Indian nationals against attempting to cross Iranian land borders without prior coordination with diplomatic officials.
The notification comes amid escalating regional instability following recent military hostilities in West Asia.
Restrictions on Border Movement
The embassy has explicitly advised all Indian citizens currently in Iran not to approach any land border points for travel outside the country unless they have received specific guidance from the mission. Any movement toward these exit points should be undertaken only after obtaining explicit authorisation and coordination.
Furthermore, the advisory clarified that the embassy will be unable to provide consular assistance to individuals who have already exited Iranian territory and find themselves unable to enter a neighbouring third country.
Emergency Contact Information
To assist citizens during the ongoing crisis, the embassy has activated several emergency helplines and communication channels:
- Mobile Helplines: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, and +98 993 217 9359.

Context of the Crisis
The advisory follows a series of significant regional events, including the death of the Iranian Supreme Leader and subsequent retaliatory strikes between U.S. and Iranian forces. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed on Monday that the safety of approximately one crore Indians in the region remains the government's top priority.
Earlier in the day, officials reported that an Indian national in Israel sustained neck injuries from shrapnel during an Iranian missile attack. India continues to advocate for de-escalation and dialogue to resolve the underlying issues in the region.
