Leave Iran immediately: Indian Embassy issues urgent departure advisory for all nationals

Tehran: The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an urgent security advisory on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, directing all Indian nationals currently in Iran to depart the country immediately as the local security environment continues to deteriorate.
The directive applies to all citizens, including students, pilgrims, business travellers, and tourists. Citing an "evolving situation in Iran," embassy officials urged nationals to secure passage out of the country via any available transport, including commercial airlines.

Safety and Registration Mandates
The embassy reiterated guidance from a previous Jan. 14 advisory, calling for "due caution" and advising citizens to steer clear of all protest sites or public demonstrations. Officials emphasised that Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) must stay in constant contact with the embassy and monitor local media for real-time updates.
Furthermore, the embassy requested that all nationals keep their travel and immigration documents, specifically passports and IDs, "readily available."
Emergency Coordination
To ensure the safety of its citizens, the Indian government has requested that all individuals in Iran register through the official portal at https://www.meaers.com/request/home.
In a move addressing potential communication barriers, the advisory noted: "In case any Indian national is unable to register due to internet disruptions in Iran, their families in India are requested to do so."
