Glenn's wife, Ali, said that in the year gone by, he had ignored multiple symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and dizziness for a long time.

A year ago, Glenn Colmer had begun to experience symptoms, but he attributed them to his age. He was a father and a sports instructor, but earlier this year, he experienced an unexpected seizure in his house. He was brought to the hospital, where a CT scan showed a tumour on his brain. He received a diagnosis of a fast-growing brain tumour a few days after that.

However, on February 18 of this year, the 51-year-old had a severe seizure at his residence in Southampton.

He was brought to the hospital, where a CT scan revealed a mass on his brain. A few days later, on February 22, he was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma, a kind of brain tumour distinguished by its quick growth and spread.

On February 28, the "much-loved" sports instructor, whose distraught wife Ali said was "strong, active, and the healthiest man [she] knew," sadly passed away. To raise money for Brain Tumour Research and increase public understanding of the "indiscriminate" cancer, Glenn's family is now sharing his tale.

Ali said that Glenn had ignored symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and dizziness for a long time, since the beginning of 2024. Doctors prescribed him medicine and glasses after he went to the hospital, which helped relieve the discomfort, so he assumed his symptoms were due to his age.

What is Glioma? Gliomas, according to specialists, are tumour that result from the uncontrolled proliferation of glial cells. Usually, these cells aid in the functioning of your central nervous system by supporting nerves. Gliomas can occur in the brain but can also form in the spinal cord.

As per the Mayo Clinic, Glioma symptoms depend on the location of the glioma. Symptoms also may depend on the type of glioma, its size, and how quickly it's growing. Common signs and symptoms of gliomas include:

  • Headache, particularly one that hurts the most in the morning.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Confusion or a decline in brain function, such as problems with thinking and understanding information.
  • Memory loss.
  • Personality changes or irritability.
  • Vision problems, such as blurred vision, double vision, or loss of peripheral vision.
  • Speech difficulties.
  • Seizures, especially in someone who hasn't had seizures before.

A fundraising golf event has been arranged by Glenn's family, friends, and coworkers to honor his life and support Brain Tumour Research. In honor of Glenn, over £3,000 has been collected thus far. The head of Community and Digital Fundraising at Brain Tumour Research, Katrina Jones, stated: "We are extremely thankful to Glenn's family and friends for boldly sharing his story.
