New York: A shooting on Emory University’s Atlanta campus left the shooter dead and one police officer injured, US media reported.

The Atlanta Police Department told NBC News there was a single shooter, now deceased, and no further threat to the campus or surrounding area.

A law enforcement officer was injured while confronting the suspect, according to reports. The university issued a shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted, Xinhua news agency reported.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp condemned the attack on X, noting it was the second high-profile shooting in the state this week.

On Wednesday, five soldiers were shot and injured at the U.S. Army’s Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia. The suspect was identified as Quornellus Radford, an automated logistics sergeant, according to Maj. Gen. John Lubas, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Lubas said Radford used a personal handgun to open fire on fellow soldiers at his assigned base. “I can confirm it was not a military weapon. And we believe it was a personal handgun,” Lubas told a news conference.

“We’re still not certain about the motivation, but he’s been interviewed by Army investigators, and we believe we’ll gain more information here shortly,” Lubas added.

Radford had previously been arrested locally for driving under the influence, officials said.
