FBI takes over former US Prez Donald Trump's 'attempted assassination' case

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has assumed control of the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, following an incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack occurred at approximately 6:15 pm local time, where shots were fired toward the stage from an elevated rooftop outside the venue.
Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the US Secret Service, confirmed that Secret Service personnel had neutralised the shooter.
“US Secret Service personnel neutralised the shooter, who is now deceased. The US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and Former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed, and two spectators were critically injured,”
In response to the incident, the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office deployed special agents, crisis response teams, and evidence technicians to the scene. In a statement released on their official X account, the FBI assured that they are committed to supporting the investigation with all necessary resources, in collaboration with the US Secret Service and local law enforcement.
“We will continue to support this investigation with the full resources of the FBI, alongside our partners at the U.S. Secret Service and state and local law enforcement. Anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is asked to call our tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.”
The attempted assassination occurred just one day before the Republican Party's convention, where Trump was set to be formally nominated as its presidential candidate. Sources close to Trump's family have reported that he is in stable condition and receiving medical care.
Political figures and leaders worldwide have expressed their shock and condemnation of the violence. Many have called for unity and the importance of maintaining the safety and security of political leaders.
