Dubai: The United Arab Emirates ushered in a new era of inter-emirate travel on Wednesday as the inaugural Etihad Rail passenger train connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi arrived at its destination right on schedule.
Carrying an enthusiastic mix of commuters heading to work and eager passengers looking to experience the historic maiden voyage, the maiden journey was completed seamlessly. According to an official spokesperson, the route is expected to see heavy demand, operating 10 daily services to transform daily commuting across the nation.
Journey times cut to just one hour
Under the newly operational timetable, the train journey between Dubai and Abu Dhabi takes just one hour and four minutes, providing substantial time savings for thousands of daily travelers and expatriates who regularly commute between the two largest emirates.
Beyond the capital route, Etihad Rail has also rolled out six daily services linking Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, reducing travel time between Dubai and Fujairah to just one hour and ten minutes.
The passenger network will expand further in the coming months. Dedicated stations at Madinat Zayed and Liwa are set to open on November 30, followed by additional stops across Al Dhafra on December 30. The station serving Sharjah University City is scheduled to open by 30 March 2027.
Ticket structure and onboard classes
Travelers booking tickets online in advance can secure Comfort Class seats for AED (Arab Emirates Dirham) 39 (approximately ₹1,019). However, purchasing tickets directly via station vending machines incurs a higher rate of AED 60 (approximately ₹1,568).
For commuters seeking elevated travel, Premium Class tickets are available at AED 109 (approximately ₹2,849), which includes enhanced seating comfort, priority amenities and complimentary breakfast service.
