7 explosions in 20 minutes: Dubai smoke cloud sparks mystery as officials reveal fire cause

Dubai: Residents near Dubai’s Jebel Ali industrial area reported hearing several loud explosions early Wednesday after a fire broke out in the region.
According to reports citing Iranian media sources, at least seven explosions were heard over a period of around 20 minutes. Videos shared online showed thick black smoke rising from the area, leading to widespread speculation about the cause of the incident.
The authenticity of some social media videos could not be independently verified.
Officials confirm accidental fire
Dubai’s Civil Defence later clarified that the incident was caused by an accident at a workshop in the Dubai South area. According to the official statement, the fire resulted in the ignition of several trucks and caravans.
Firefighters brought the situation under control, and authorities said no injuries were recorded.

Following the explosions, some reports and social media posts claimed that the blasts could have been caused by a missile strike.
Some Iraqi media outlets linked the incident to possible attacks by Yemen-based Houthi rebels, but there was no official confirmation from UAE authorities supporting these claims. Authorities did not initially confirm whether the incident was an industrial accident or related to any external attack.

Why Jebel Ali is important
Jebel Ali is one of Dubai’s major industrial and logistics hubs.
The area includes the Jebel Ali Port and Jebel Ali Free Zone, which host thousands of companies involved in international trade, manufacturing and logistics.
The location’s importance to regional commerce made the incident a matter of international attention.
The UAE has remained vigilant amid continuing tensions in West Asia. However, officials have not linked the Dubai fire incident to any regional conflict and have described it as an accidental event. Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the exact circumstances that led to the fire.
