Two Delta jets crash on LaGuardia taxiway, wing smashes cockpit at NYC airport | WATCH

New York: Two Delta Air Lines regional jets collided while taxiing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025, resulting in at least one minor injury. The low-speed collision occurred around 9:56 PM local time and has prompted an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and airport authorities.
What Happened
The incident involved two Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jets. According to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio, the right wing of one aircraft struck the nose and cockpit area of the other during taxi operations. Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), had just landed and was taxiing to its gate when it was hit by another Delta jet, Flight 5155, which was also manoeuvring on the taxiway.
Videos and images shared online show significant damage, including a detached wing section and a cracked windshield on the impacted aircraft. Emergency crews responded promptly, and both planes were removed from the taxiway for inspection.
Injuries and Passenger Accounts
One flight attendant sustained minor injuries and was treated by emergency medical technicians at the scene. No other injuries have been reported. Passengers described the impact as sudden but not violent, with some noting loud noises and visible damage upon exiting the plane.
Official Response and Investigation
Delta confirmed the incident was a “low-speed collision” and emphasised that the safety of passengers and crew remains its top priority. The FAA, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to lead the investigation into the cause, which may include air traffic control procedures, visibility, and ground handling protocols.
LaGuardia Airport, known for its congested taxiways and complex airfield layout, has seen previous runway incursions, raising ongoing concerns about ground safety and air traffic management.
Impact on Operations
The collision caused temporary disruptions to airport operations, with several flights delayed or rerouted. Delta has rebooked affected passengers and is working with authorities to assess the damage to the aircraft.
