Global leaders and American lawmakers across party lines have strongly condemned the brutal killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The 31-year-old right-wing leader, a close ally of President Donald Trump, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. Authorities have launched a manhunt, calling the incident an "active investigation."

Condolences poured in from across the political spectrum in the United States. President Donald Trump, visibly shaken, described Kirk as a “great and even legendary” figure who had the “Heart of the Youth” in America. In a Truth Social post, he extended sympathies to Kirk’s wife Erika and family, adding: “Charlie, we love you.” Later, in a video statement, Trump blamed the “radical left” for the assassination and vowed accountability.

Vice President JD Vance called Kirk a “genuinely good guy and a young father,” urging prayers for his soul. Former President Joe Biden also condemned the killing, saying, “There is no place in our country for this kind of violence. It must end now.” Ex-Vice President Kamala Harris echoed the concern, stressing that political violence “has no place in America.”

Former President Barack Obama offered condolences to Kirk’s family, saying such “despicable violence has no place in our democracy.” Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr paid an emotional tribute, calling Kirk his “little brother” and vowing that his legacy would live on through millions of young people he inspired.

The shock extended far beyond US borders. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu mourned the death of a “lion-hearted friend of Israel” who stood tall for free speech and Judeo-Christian civilisation. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Kirk’s murder was a “heartbreaking reminder that political debate must never be silenced by violence.” Italian PM Giorgia Meloni called it an “atrocious murder” and a “deep wound for democracy,” while Canadian PM Mark Carney condemned it as a threat to democratic values.

As tributes continue to flow, the killing of Charlie Kirk has sparked a rare moment of global unity against political violence, highlighting concerns about deepening ideological divides.
