Tehran: Overnight airstrikes struck multiple locations in Iran, including residential buildings and the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, killing at least 18 people, Iranian media reported.

The semiofficial Fars news agency and Nour News said the first strike hit a residential building near Eslamshar, southwest of the capital, claiming at least 13 lives. Another strike in Qom, a holy Shiite city south of Tehran, reportedly killed at least five people.

It remains unclear why these civilian areas were targeted. No group has claimed responsibility, though the attacks follow a profanity-laced threat by US President Donald Trump demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Strikes at Sharif University of Technology

Airstrikes also hit Sharif University of Technology, causing damage to university buildings and a nearby natural gas distribution site. Iranian media noted the campus was empty, as schools across the country continue online classes due to the ongoing war.

Over the years, the university has faced international sanctions for its work with Iran’s military, particularly the ballistic missile program controlled by the Revolutionary Guard. The Guard and other security forces have reportedly been using secondary sites as rally points after repeated attacks on their bases.

Iran has not provided overall casualty figures in recent days and has remained silent about material losses caused by the conflict. The lack of clarity around the strikes leaves residents concerned about both the safety of civilian areas and the potential escalation of attacks.
