Two Air India flights heading to different cities in the United Kingdom were diverted to nearby airports after poor weather conditions affected operations, the airline confirmed.

Both flights faced adverse weather at their destination airports.

Which flights were affected?

One of the affected flights, AI131, was operating from Mumbai to London Heathrow. The Boeing 777 aircraft was unable to land at Heathrow because of the weather. After holding over the airport, it was diverted to London Gatwick, where it made a priority landing.

The second flight, AI117, was travelling from Amritsar to Birmingham. Operated by a Boeing 787, this flight also could not land as scheduled due to bad weather.

When did the diversions happen?

Both flights departed from India on Thursday. Taking into account the time difference of about 5.30 hours between India and the UK, the diversions also took place on Thursday according to UK local time.
