Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has announced a two-month extension for the country's amnesty program. The amnesty, which began on September 1, was initially set to end on Thursday (October 31) but has now been extended until December 31.

The UAE’s Amnesty 2024 scheme, offers undocumented residents a chance to regularise their visas or leave without penalties. With this, thousands of undocumented residents have already legalised their stay or returned to their native countries under the program, with numerous fines waived as well.

During the amnesty period, stranded tourists on visiting visas in the UAE also benefited from a network of support provided by various community members and philanthropists who helped cover travel costs for those facing financial difficulties. The Indian Consulate in Dubai played a crucial role by issuing more than 2,000 emergency certificates and over 2,400 exit permits, helping Indian residents smoothly navigate the amnesty process.

This initiative offers significant hope to those residing illegally in the country, and authorities have clarified that the decision to extend the amnesty aligns with the UAE’s 53rd National Day celebrations.
