The landscape of Indian aviation is set for a landmark shift as the Noida International Airport (NIA) prepares to launch its first commercial flight on June 15.
IndiGo will connect India’s emerging economic powerhouse, Noida, with its financial capital, Mumbai, by running a direct service between the two cities.

Strengthening the economic corridor

The decision to prioritise the Mumbai route reflects the heavy daily commute of business professionals and multinational executives between the two hubs. Officials believe this direct air link will provide a major catalyst for trade and industrial growth within the National Capital Region (NCR). Ticket bookings are expected to open this Thursday, May 7.

A gesture of gratitude to landowners

In a unique move approved by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the airport’s opening day will also feature a special flight to Lucknow and Ayodhya. This flight is dedicated to the local farmers who surrendered their land for the first phase of the airport's development. These farmers will be flown to the state capital to be formally honoured for their contribution to the project.

Expanding the fleet

While IndiGo takes the lead, the airport is quickly scaling up its operations.

  • Launch partners: Alongside IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express are confirmed to begin regular scheduled flights.

  • Security clearance: The launch follows the critical approval of the airport’s security programme by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on April 28.

As the June 15 deadline approaches, infrastructure preparations and airline counters are being finalised. The airport is not just a transport hub but a symbol of regional pride and progress. Information regarding additional domestic routes and fare structures is expected to be released shortly. (With inputs from Agencies)
