Kudumbasree records revenue of Rs 200 crores from Kerala Chicken project

Kochi: Kudumbasree has achieved a turnover of Rs 200 crore since the launch of the Kerala Chicken project. This direct sale of Kudumbasree began in 2019 and over 1.81 crore kilo of chicken has been sold since then. 25,000 kilograms of chicken reach the market daily through this project.

Presently, the Kerala chicken project has been implemented in nine districts of the state, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. By October, the project will be introduced in Kannur as well.

Kudumbasree aims to extend the project to Kasaragod, Wayanad, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts. Currently, 115 outlets and 345 farms have been established and this will go up once the project is extended to other districts.

The project began with the vision of creating a permanent source of income for Kudumbasree women and to facilitate the availability of chicken at affordable prices in the market.

An estimated 6 crore kilograms of chicken is required per month in the state. However, adequate supply to meet this demand is absent here and about 60% of the demand is met by the supply brought from neigbouring states.
