Kerala Industrial department to retrieve 255 acres of land

Thiruvananthapuram: The industrial department is planning to retrieve unused land which was allotted for various projects across the district industrial centres. However, such lands are entangled in up to 166 cases. The government is expected to retrieve the lands within a period a month, by making necessary changes in the ‘pattas’ and ‘pattayams’ of such lands.
As of now, due to the existing rules and regulations, it becomes difficult for the investors to modify their businesses according to the changing trends due to the legal hurdles associated with it. However, the new regulations brought in by the government is expected to put an end to the persisting issues of the investors.
By introducing new laws, the government is trying to get the investors on its side, who otherwise were not ready to give up on their lands easily.
The government, as of now, is planning to retrieve the lands so as to change the ‘patta’ and ‘pattayam’ regulations of the plots, following which, the lands will be given back to its current holders, for setting up new/modified projects. The industrial department will provide facilities to ensure optimum ‘utilisation’ of its lands.
The changes being introduced are expected to eat into the profit shares of KINFRA for land transactions done inside the industrial parks. At present, there are 300 acres across the KINFRA parks that remain unused.
