Kerala handloom, Khadi sectors aim to boost sales this Onam season

Kochi: The khadi and handloom sectors of the state are gearing up to boost sales in this year's Onam market. This festival season, the sector is expecting sales worth Rs 60 crores from across the state. Whereas, the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board is targeting sales worth Rs 75 crore.
Further, Hantex and Hanveev are planning joint sale of products worth Rs 30 crores. Last year, they had achieved sales of Rs 22 crores during the Onam season.
According to the state handloom and textile directorate, the market is recovering from the impact of floods and covid and is expecting good sales this time. The production by handloom groups have also returned to normal and hence a three-fold rise in sales is expected this year. Onam rebate sales are available till August 28.
Royal mundu, Kami kurti
Handloom sector has also shifted focus to value added products this festival season. Specially designed royal mundu and Kami brand multi-coloured ladies kurtis and junior commando shirts are the major attractions in Hantex. In addition, digital payment facilities have been set up in all major showrooms too.
Online sales
Handloom groups are also utilising e-commerce possibilities to boost sales. At present, handloom products are available on e-shopping platforms like Amazon. Also, sales have also begun through the state government’s open network for digital commerce (ONDC).
