Silver prices in India
Silver slipped to roughly ₹208.90 per gram nationwide. A kilogram traded at around ₹2,08,900 in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, while Chennai remained elevated at approximately ₹2,20,900.
Analysts said domestic silver remains tethered to global pricing and rupee fluctuations, noting that depreciation in the currency tends to amplify volatility in local bullion.
What’s driving the metal prices
Market participants cited a blend of international and domestic triggers shaping precious-metal trades:
- Global direction driven by geopolitical uncertainty, shifts in sentiment and external demand.
- Rupee performance, where weaker currency dynamics raise import costs.
- Seasonal appetite, with wedding and festive periods supporting footfall at jewellery counters.
- Policy indicators, including inflation management and rate signals from the Reserve Bank of India.
Tips for buyers and investors
Analysts urged consumers to stay selective and prioritise assured purity. Standard recommendations include:
- preferring BIS-hallmarked jewellery
- comparing quotes across showrooms
- insisting on invoices specifying purity, price and weight
- tracking daily price adjustments before committing to purchases
