Silver saw a mild climb, with the metal priced at ₹201.10 per gram nationwide. One kilogram of silver was sold at ₹2,01,100 in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, while Chennai registered a higher rate of ₹2,09,100.

Analysts observed that domestic silver prices remain closely aligned with global market trends and the movement of the Indian rupee, noting that a weaker rupee generally intensifies fluctuations in local bullion rates.

Factors influencing precious metal prices

Market observers pointed to a combination of global and domestic factors influencing gold and silver rates:

  • Global market trends: International demand, geopolitical tensions and fluctuating investor sentiment continue to shape bullion prices.
  • Rupee performance: A weaker rupee increases import costs, lifting prices in the domestic market.
  • Seasonal buying: Festive and wedding seasons traditionally boost consumer demand.
  • Policy signals: Inflation-related policies and interest-rate decisions by the Reserve Bank of India can influence market behaviour.

Tips for buyers and investors

Experts urge buyers to remain cautious and prioritise certified products when purchasing gold or silver. Consumers are advised to:

  • Choose BIS-hallmarked jewellery
  • Compare prices across jewellers before purchasing
  • Request invoices detailing purity, rate and weight
  • Monitor daily price updates for better market decisions
