Blast on house terrace at Maniyoor; Youth loses hand

Vadakara: In an unfortunate incident that happened at Maniyoor in Vadakara, a youth's hands were shattered into pieces in an explosion at his house on Wednesday evening. He was rushed to a private hospital in Payyoli and then to the Kozhikode Medical College.

The injured, Manikkuttan alias Hariprasad (28), was a BJP-RSS worker in the area. The blast on the terrace of his house in the IHDP colony, Cherandathoor, created a loud sound. His mother was also present in the house when the bomb exploded. The building did not suffer any damage.

Police found palm leaves, human flesh and blood at the site of the blast. The bomb squad and dog squad searched the place. Though police suspect the blast occured while making the bomb, they have not confirmed whether it is a bomb or a cracker that blasted.

The blast shocked the natives. No political tensions were reported in the region. Vadakara DySP Abdul Sherif said that the police have initiated a probe. More police personnel were deployed in the location.

An office-bearer of RSS in Vadakara said the organisation is not involved in the incident. He said Hariprasad has no relation with RSS for four years.
