Kochi: A captivating photograph taken by a wildlife photographer in the Bandipur forests on the morning of Independence Day has become the talk of the town. The stunning image features a tiger walking through the forest with a giant tusker in the background.

According to the photographer, Manoj Madhav, the moment unfolded as dawn broke over the Bandipur forests amidst light rain. The safari jeep, in which Madhav and his team were travelling, had stopped suddenly upon spotting two tuskers seemingly poised for a confrontation. "The elephants were raising their trunks, indicating a potential face-off. But then, unexpectedly, an elegant tiger made a grand entrance. The big cat crossed the forest path, slightly distanced from the elephants. The resulting photograph was nothing but spectacular," Madhav recounted.

Madhav added that there was barely time to capture the moment as the shutter clicked twice within seconds. He later speculated that the anticipated elephant confrontation did not occur, as one of the tuskers was significantly larger than the other.

Over a span of four days, Madhav and his team observed up to eight tuskers in Bandipur, which they considered an unusually high number. They surmised that many wild animals might have relocated to the region before the recent landslides in the Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of Wayanad.

Forest officials have suggested that the majority of wildlife likely migrated to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve ahead of the landslides. It is also believed that some animals from Wayanad may have entered Karnataka's forests as well.
