'Kallakkadal' to strike again: Red alert on Kerala coast
‘Kallakkadal’ prompts a red alert for the Kerala coast, signaling the potential for high tides and sea surges. The State Disaster Management Authority, in response to warnings from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center in anticipation of rough seas from 2.30 am on Saturday to 11.30 pm on Sunday, has advised coastal residents to exercise caution and adhere to directives. During this time the waves can rise as high as 0.5 to 1.5 meters.
The threat arises from powerful waves that originated on April 26, 10,000 km away in the South Atlantic Ocean, gradually making their way towards the South Indian Ocean. Expected to reach the southern Indian Cape by Saturday morning, these waves pose a risk of storm surges.
