Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of media reports and social media discourse that the ban on the use of sun films on vehicles has been lifted, the Kerala transport minister Antony Raju has responded.

Terming the narrative as a misinterpretation of the motor vehicle act, the minister on his social media post clarified that sun films on vehicles are still banned. He noted that Central Motor Vehicle Rules clearly stipulate that the front and rear safety glasses of vehicles must be at least 70 per cent transparent and the side glasses 50 per cent transparent. Similarly, the court has prohibited the use of cooling film, tinted film and black/dark film, the post read.

The minister informed that Transport Commissioner has been directed to take action against the violators.

“It has come to attention that many are misinterpreting the existing norm and creating confusion,” Raju pointed out in his social media post. However, if required legal advice on the use of glazing plastic will be sought,” it read.
