Kasaragod, Kerala: Opposition Leader VD Satheesan on Friday stated that Jamaat-e-Islami’s support will be accepted in Assembly elections in the state.

He questioned what was wrong with accepting such support when the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami himself has clearly rejected the idea of a theocratic politics.

“They have clearly stated that they do not stand for religious nationalism. In that situation, what is wrong with accepting their support? One should not forget that for nearly four decades, when they held such positions, they were aligned with the CPM. At that time, no one had any objections,” the Opposition leader said.

“When they stand with the CPM, everyone is considered secular, but the moment they leave the CPM, they are immediately branded as communal. We do not agree with that position. All these issues have arisen only after Jamaat-e-Islami announced support for the UDF. That stance is not right,” he clarified.
