Security forces have once again stepped up when needed for the country, coordinating the search and rescue operations in Wayanad which was hit by massive landslides on Tuesday.

Soldiers toiled away to reach hundreds in need for help. In parts of Wayanad, they are racing against time to pull out any survivors.

Personnel from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Territorial Army joined hands with the National Disaster Relief Force, state agencies and civilians to collectively look for survivors amid rough weather.

According to a senior government source, heavy rainfall caused multiple landslides in the hilly regions of Meppadi, raising concerns about a potential rise in casualties.

In response, the Kerala government called on the Defence forces to enhance rescue operations. A 43-member team from the 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) MADRAS has also been deployed to assist in the efforts.

In fact, the 122 TA Batallion managed to reach out to 100 stranded people from the Mundakai village and was evacuating them at the time of filing this report.

To bolster the rescue operations, additional teams -- including 200 soldiers, medical personnel, and equipment from the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre in Kannur and the Territorial Army from Kozhikode -- have been mobilized.

To expedite the evacuation of stranded individuals, two Indian Air Force helicopters from Air Force Station Sulur have been sent to the affected areas.

Additionally, the Navy's River Crossing Team from the Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kannur joined the rescue mission, as requested by the Kerala government.

Besides this, equipment is being transported from the Madras Engineers Group in Bangalore by road and from Delhi Cantonment by air. Two extra columns from Bengaluru and Trivandrum are scheduled to be moved with the assistance of Indian Air Force assets.

A Control Centre is being set up in Calicut under the command of the Para Regimental Centre to oversee and coordinate all relief operations.
