Wayanad landslide: Relatives in despair as 11-member family goes missing

Meppadi: The devastating landslides in Wayanad have left 11 members of a family from Mundakkai missing. The disaster struck their home, where Kunjimoideen, his wife Ayisha, their son Naufal, his wife Sajna, their daughter Nafla, and their son were present. Also caught in the landslide were Kunjimoideen's elder son Mansoor, his wife Muhsina, and their three daughters, who had sought refuge at Kunjimoideen’s house from their high-risk area of residence.
The landslide swept through the area, and since then, relatives have been unable to obtain any information about the missing individuals.
In addition to Kunjimoideen’s house, nearby houses belonging to Yusuf, Nazar, Rukmini, Sudevan, Pathumma, Parthan, Salim, and others were also destroyed by the landslide.
Even those who managed to escape to camps in Meppadi remain uncertain about the fate of their missing neighbours. The local community remains hopeful and is offering prayers for the safe return of all those affected.
The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, struck several areas including Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha early on Tuesday morning, resulting in numerous casualties, including women and children.
Meanwhile, the desperate search for the missing persons continues, with the search team having no clear idea of the number of individuals who have disappeared. The massive landslide, which carried heavy boulders and loads of mud, has obliterated everything in its path.
