WATCH: Tirur magistrate trades gavel for chenda beats in epic court Onam bash
Tirur (Kerala): Court premises usually bound by strict decorum witnessed an extraordinary spectacle during Onam celebrations when a judicial magistrate stepped up to lead a traditional Panchari Melam percussion performance.
The lively scene unfolded within the court complex during festivities organised by the Tirur Bar Association. A 15-member ensemble from the Valluvanadan Kannan Kalakshetra at Perassannur in Kuttippuram, was performing the Panchari Melam when the magistrate stepped forward to showcase his own drumming talents.
Holding the traditional chenda (drum) and sticks alongside lead artist Anil Perassannur and his ensemble, the magistrate took centre stage and drummed enthusiastically for a full 15 minutes to cheering from delighted advocates and court clerks.
The Onam gala featured an array of traditional cultural forms, including figures dressed as King Mahabali, Puli (tiger dancers), Vedan, and Kathakali performers.
The celebrations also included traditional games such as tug-of-war, "dotting the bindi" on the beauty (Sundariyikku Pottuthodal) and competitive eating challenges.
The event was led by Tirur Bar Association President Advocate Abdul Jabbar and Secretary Advocate Shiyas.
