Varapuzha explosion: Firecracker unit owner booked for culpable homicide

Kochi: Police on Wednesday registered a case against the owner of the firecracker manufacturing unit in Kochi, in an important development related to the Varapuzha explosion.

The unit owner Jenson and his brother Janson are the accused in the case. They have been booked under non-bailable charges. The unit owner has been booked for culpable homicide. 

Officials of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) will examine the area and gather evidence. 

According to the police, the explosives kept inside the house were brought from Palakkad. Meanwhile, the autopsy related-procedures for the person who died in the blast will are also progressing. 

The blast, which killed one and injured six others, took place on Tuesday around 4 pm. The firecracker unit was completely destroyed in the blast and tremors were felt up to several kilometres away.
