Kochi: Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas, who suffered severe injuries after falling from a stage during an event in Kochi, is currently on a ventilator, hospital authorities said.

The hospital reported that Thomas sustained head and lung injuries, with signs of blood clots. Further scans are being conducted, and doctors are closely monitoring her condition. They also noted minor fractures on her face and injuries to her spinal cord. She is currently under 24-hour observation.

"Uma Thomas has not regained consciousness yet. The accident was serious enough to affect her consciousness, response, and memory. It is important to give her time to recover. There is no uncontrolled internal bleeding at present. She has fractures on her face. Doctors from various departments in the hospital are working together to assess her condition," the doctors said.

The incident happened during a Guinness World Record attempt at the Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where 12,000 dancers were performing.

Thomas fell from the edge of the stage onto the concrete floor, reportedly sustaining a head injury in the fall. Thomas was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The MLA, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), will require further scanning to determine the severity of the injuries, according to hospital authorities.

Specialists from Orthopedics, ENT, and Neurology are conducting the necessary examinations. Although the event continued after the accident, the organizers later confirmed that it was concluded shortly after.

Minister Saji Cheriyan was among the dignitaries attending the event.
