Thrissur Pooram will be a festival of people, old glory will be restored: Suresh Gopi

Thrissur: Union Minister Suresh Gopi has announced that Thrissur Pooram will be celebrated in its traditional style, restoring the festival's historic charm. The statement was made as part of a meeting led by the Union Minister to address concerns about the Pooram. The meeting is currently taking place at the Collectorate.
Gopi emphasised that Thrissur Pooram is a cherished tradition for the people and Pooram enthusiasts. He noted that while past celebrations were enjoyed for their smooth conduct, recent events had seen some disruptions. The Minister stressed that the festival should remain a people's celebration, adhering to standards set by the High Court, which serve as the law.
The meeting aims to address recent issues by implementing technical changes and bringing the matter back to court if needed. Gopi mentioned that there will be several such meetings to ensure the festival returns to its former glory.
Suresh Gopi also emphasised that the Pooram should be celebrated as a festival for the people. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been informed of the situation and has responded by sending a team of experts in areas such as explosives, sound, and lighting to assist with the preparations.
Recent disruptions were attributed to actions by Police Commissioner Ankit Ashok, who has since been transferred. The Devaswom had planned to hold only the Pooram ceremony due to police roadblocks that obstructed the gathering and arrival of the Thiruvambadi section.
The goal is to make Pooram a festival for everyone, celebrating its rich traditions and restoring its past splendour, according to Suresh Gopi.
