Three-month-old Kozhikode baby stops breathing; hero dad’s civil defence skill saves him | WATCH

Payyoli, Kozhikode: When three-month-old Siyan suddenly stopped breathing at home in Vadakara’s Maniyoor, it was his father Ligith’s civil defence training that saved him.
It all began on Friday night. The baby cried after hitting his hand, but soon became unresponsive. Mother Sarima and family members tried to soothe him, but Siyan’s eyes rolled, and he could not breathe.
Quick thinking pays off
Reacting instantly, Ligith picked up his son and ran to the corridor. Using techniques he had learned in his five years as a civil defence volunteer, he began emergency procedures. Within moments, the baby started responding. Siyan was taken to a private hospital in Payyoli and later transferred to Vadakara Co-operative Hospital.
A life-saving routine
Ligith first shook the baby gently twice, then placed him on his knees and pressed lightly on his stomach. Supporting Siyan’s face with one hand, he tapped the back three to four times with the other. He then covered the baby’s mouth and nose with his face to give artificial breaths. Finally, he placed Siyan on his chest, pressing with his index and middle fingers. Repeating the procedure three times, the baby revived—all within two minutes.
Experience matters
This is Ligith’s sixth life-saving intervention. Earlier, he rescued a one-and-a-half-month-old who had swallowed milk. Outside civil defence, he works in interior construction.
Social media attention
CCTV footage of the dramatic rescue has emerged on social media, showing just how swiftly training and calm action can make all the difference.
