Thousands seek treatment for fever in Kozhikode daily as Covid cases continue to surge

Kozhikode: On an average, more than a thousand people seek treatment daily in Kozhikode district due to fever. In December alone, 25,155 people sought treatment out of which 202 people required inpatient treatment. 

26 people who sought treatment in the Medical College have tested positive for Covid so far. Currently, two Covid-deaths have been reported in the district. 

Even after the fever goes down, phlegm and cough persists for a long time. In the last three days alone, 1174, 1247 and 1052 people respectively have sought treatment due to fever. Along with this, 102 cases of Dengue have also been confirmed. Apart from this, cases of diarrhoea, chicken pox and jaundice have been reported in many parts of the district.

Cases of mumps in children are also on the rise. So far, 1512 children have contracted mumps in the state. Common symptoms include swelling on both sides of the lower cheek and fever. 

The number of people testing positive for Covid in the state has increased. Officials say there is nothing to fear and the situation is under control.
