Thiruvanathapuram: A spa operating in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram was reportedly closed down on Sunday after a complaint of mistreatment was raised by a young woman.

The 23-year-old woman directly reported the issue to the Mayor, prompting an inspection by the Health Department of the Municipal Corporation at Sparshan Wellness Spa, which operates near the Secretariat. The Mayor confirmed that the woman's complaint was also reported to the police.

During the inspection, it was found that one section of the building operating within the spa lacked the necessary licence. As a result, this section was shut down as part of an ongoing investigation. Municipal officials also stated that inquiries would be made regarding whether any illicit activities, such as cross-massaging, were taking place at the spa.

Earlier, on February 1, a six-member gang led by history-sheeter Subin Alexander, had allegedly sexually assaulted a spa employee at knifepoint in Thiruvalla while demanding money. Police have arrested Alexander and his associate Berlin Das, while four others involved remain at large.

The victim and spa owner had told reporters they suspected rival firms may have hired the attackers, with the probe pointing to robbery as the possible motive.
