Kannur: An employee at the Uma Maheshwara Temple in Kizhuthalli here was attacked by a gang. The gang that barged into the temple attacked Ambalanada native Shibin and hurt another employee Sreejith. They were both rushed to the hospital.

The incident happened on Monday morning. There were certain disagreements over the authority of the temple and a case relating to this is also under the court’s review at present. There are RSS and CPM members on the temple’s committee and the disagreements are over the superiority of these factions. It is hinted that the last day’s attack was a follow-up of this disparity between the two groups. Shibin, who was targeted in the attack, is a DYFI activist.

CPM claimed that RSS workers are responsible for the attack on Shibin. Kannur town police have registered a case against six men over this incident.
