Tanur boat tragedy: Court denies bail to 6 accused including port officer

Manjeri: The Manjeri District Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea filed by six accused, including a port officer and chief surveyor, in connection with the Tanur boat accident case. The petition was rejected by Judge S Muralikrishna.
The six accused are Kozhikode port officer Prasad (50), Alappuzha chief surveyor Sebastian Joseph (43), boat service manager Anil (48), ticket distributor Shyam Kumar (35), employees Bilal (32) and Savad (41).
The court came to the decision after public prosecutor Tom K Thomas argued that the case will be affected if bail is granted as the probe is still underway. The accused have been shifted to Tirur Sub Jail.
Earlier, the court had rejected the bail plea filed by boat owner Nasser, the first accused, and fifth accused Dineshan. However, three others were granted bail as they were not directly involved in the crime.
The Taur ‘Atlantic’ boat accident, which claimed the lives of 22 passengers, took place on May 7 at Purapuzha.
