Tirurangadi (Malappuram): A controversy erupted in Malappuram district of Kerala when an unusual duty adjustment by a doctor couple raised concerns about the handling of public health sector matters. The issue came to light when Muslim Youth League activists, who became aware of the adjustment, raised protests.

The incident took place at Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital, where Dr. Safeel, working at Kondotty Taluk Hospital, volunteered to take over the duties of his wife, Dr. Saheeda, who is in charge of the Emergency Medical Department at Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital. Dr. Saheeda had recently rejoined her duties after completing maternity leave.

According to Dr. Prabhu Das, the hospital superintendent, during the time Dr. Saheeda was breastfeeding her child, Dr. Safeel had been performing emergency department duties in her place. Reports indicate that, in several instances, Dr. Safeel conducted medical examinations instead of his wife.

The matter was brought to light by Muslim Youth League workers, who filed a complaint with the Health Minister and the District Medical Officer (DMO), demanding investigation.

Meanwhile, the CPM Tirurangadi Local Committee claimed that the person who conducted the impersonation is a relative of Muslim League leader KPA Majeed and called for an inquiry into the incident. They also demanded action against the doctor who received salary without working. The CPM further urged the health department to conduct a thorough investigation to determine whether KPA Majeed had any involvement.

In response, KPA Majeed said, "The allegations against me are politically motivated. I have nothing to say about this incident."
