Super League Kerala semi-finals postponed: What football fans need to know

Thrissur, Kerala: The Super League Kerala (SLK) has postponed both semi-final football matches of its second season following directives from local authorities ahead of the upcoming local body elections on December 9 and 11.
The first semi-final, scheduled for today (December 7) at 7:30 pm in Thrissur between Thrissur Magic FC and Malappuram FC, will not take place. The second semi-final, planned for December 10 in Kozhikode featuring Calicut FC and Kannur Warriors, has also been deferred. The final, set for December 14 in Kozhikode, remains uncertain and will depend on the rescheduled semi-finals.
Thrissur Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh explained that the decision was driven by security concerns. "With election campaigning entering its final stages, police personnel have been deployed to polling duties, leaving insufficient staff to ensure match safety," he said.
Official notices regarding the postponement were issued to both teams and organisers.
SLK commits to smooth continuation
Responding to the announcement, SLK management said: "Fans are requested not to travel to the venue on the previously announced dates. Revised dates will be shared at the earliest after further consultation with the concerned authorities."
The league also assured fans that it remains committed to a smooth and well-organised continuation of the competition and thanked the football community for their understanding and cooperation.
Matches will be rescheduled once vote counting concludes (December 13), with updated dates to be announced in due course.
