Chittoor, Maniyeri: In a bizarre and persistent encounter, a stray dog repeatedly took over a scooter and eventually attacked its owner, causing panic in the locality.

Kannan, who runs a barber shop in Maniyeri, first noticed the white stray dog seated on his scooter parked outside his house around 6:30 am on Wednesday. When he tried to chase it away, the dog barked aggressively. Kannan grabbed a stick and ran outside, but the dog fled and stood near a shop.

Later, when Kannan went to retrieve his scooter, the dog was once again guarding it. As he approached, it barked loudly and resisted any attempt to be removed. Kannan tried to scare it off with a stick, but the dog refused to budge.

Seeing the ongoing struggle, locals and passersby gathered, but none were able to help. Despite informing the Kerala Fire and Rescue Service and panchayat, no assistance arrived, according to residents. Finally, around 10 am, someone poured water on the dog, prompting it to jump off. But when it tried to climb back, locals managed to drive it away with sticks. Kannan then took the scooter to his shop.

However, the ordeal wasn’t over. When Kannan returned home after lunch, he found the dog once again perched on the scooter. Despite several attempts and pouring water on it, the dog refused to get off. Kannan said he eventually had to call friends from Palakkad for help in removing the stubborn canine.

The strange behaviour of the dog has left the local community baffled and concerned.
