Sikkim tunnel collapse: Anish Mohan's body brought home, funeral at 1.30 pm; hundreds pay respects

Kottayam: The mortal remains of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) official Anish Mohan, who died in a landslide during tunnel construction work in Sikkim, was brought to his residence in Kottayam on Saturday. The body was flown from Kolkata to Kochi by Air India and then taken to his home at Kochumattom in Manarcadu. The funeral will be held at 1.30 pm in the family compound.

Anish Mohan (43), a native of Koorothparambil, Kochumattom, Manarcadu in Kottayam, was killed in the landslide that struck an under-construction tunnel of a hydropower project in Sikkim on Monday afternoon. A large number of people gathered at his residence to pay their last respects. Anish was well known among Malayalis for sharing science-related content on social media.

The body was transported by road from Sikkim to Kolkata on Friday afternoon. With the intervention of NORKA, embalming was carried out at around 3.30 pm in a mobile unit arranged at the Kolkata airport. After completing the formalities, the body was flown on an Air India flight that departed at around 11 pm and arrived at Kochi's Nedumbassery airport at around 7.30 am on Saturday.
