Sharada Teacher praises EK Nayanar’s legacy on her 90th bday; Suresh Gopi, others attend celebration

At a vibrant and heartfelt celebration in Kalliasseri, Sharada Teacher marked her 90th birthday surrounded by loved ones and leaders, despite the absence of her late husband, former Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar. The occasion saw many dignitaries, including Central Minister Suresh Gopi and former Minister E.P. Jayarajan, coming together to honour Sharada Teacher’s remarkable life and legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Sharada Teacher expressed her enduring commitment to love and unity, regardless of political differences. She reflected on the values imparted by her husband, stating, “I have always known how to love everyone, regardless of political differences. This was the path shown by my beloved husband, E.K. Nayanar. It is through this path that I have lived all these years. I do not know how much longer I will live, but I wish to live the rest of my life in the same way.” Her words resonated deeply with the attendees, evoking a sense of warmth and admiration.
In a symbolic moment, Sharada Teacher, with the assistance of Suresh Gopi and E.P. Jayarajan, cut the celebratory cake. Central Minister Suresh Gopi shared a poignant reflection on Sharada Teacher, likening her to a global mother. He spoke about the similarities between Sharada Teacher and all mothers, emphasizing that the nurturing spirit of a mother inspires those around her. "I consider Sharada Teacher as my own mother," he said.
The event was graced by the presence of Speaker A.N. Shamseer, former Speaker M. Vijayakumar, BJP leader C.K. Padmanabhan, and other influential figures. These leaders gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion, with Sharada Teacher's children, including Sudha and Usha, serving the first slice of cake. Other family members, friends, and political figures also joined in the festivities.
Prominent attendees included Ministers Kadannappalli Ramachandran and Saji Cherian, MP Rajmohan Unnithan, and former Minister P.K. Sreemathy. The ceremony was also attended by several other political leaders, including the Chief Minister’s political secretary P. Sashi, along with other distinguished guests.
On behalf of Managing Director M.V. Shreyams Kumar, Deputy Editor of Mathrubhumi, P.P. Sasindran, presented a bouquet to Sharda Teacher.
