Shahbaz murder case: School receives letter threatening to kill accused students

Thamarassery, Kozhikode: An anonymous letter threatening an attack on the students accused in the brutal murder of Shahbaz was sent to MJ Higher Secondary School on Saturday.
The letter arrived shortly after the five students initially arrested in the case were allowed to write the SSLC exam under police protection. Written in neat handwriting, it was addressed to the principal of Thamarassery G.V.H.S.S.
Upon receiving the letter, the school authorities promptly informed the Thamarassery police, leading to the launch of an investigation. Given the sensitivity of the case involving student violence, the investigation is being conducted under strict secrecy.
The letter was sent before it was decided to shift the examination centre of the accused students from Korangad School. Initially, their exam centre was relocated to NGO Quarters GHSS, but following protests, it was further moved to the Observation Home on the last day. The examination centre was officially changed on Monday, while the sixth student in the case was arrested on Tuesday.
The letter, expressing outrage over Shahbaz’s murder and calling for the accused students to be killed, was sent anonymously with no address. The contents of the letter threaten that the accused will be killed before the completion of their examinations.
The case
The investigation team, led by Thamarassery DySP Susheer and Inspector A. Sayuj Kumar, has so far arrested six students directly involved in the violence that led to Shahbaz's murder. The police are now working to identify people who may have instigated or conspired in the crime to the case.
As there are no SSLC exams scheduled between Monday and the 17th, the police plan to take other students accused of inciting the violence into custody during this period.
