Land confiscation procedures for Silverline Semi High-Speed rail project begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The Ministry of Revenue plans to initiate procedures for land confiscation from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod for the Semi High-Speed Rail Corridor (Silverline) Project.

The Revenue Ministry published the list of survey numbers of 955.13 hectares of land in 11 districts, according to the data collected from the concerned villages. The proceedings will be taken up according to the permission received from the Railway Board. KIIFB approved a loan of Rs 2100 crores for the confiscation of land. 

The Cabinet sanctioned creation of special offices for a period of one year to take up the project in the state. The approval is to constitute the office of a Special Deputy Collector and Special Tahsildars each in 11 districts through which the new railway lines pass. 

Apart from the existing railways in Kerala, the Silverline project encompasses 540 kilometres more with three and four tracks.
